That catch cost me having to call out someone so we could get into the car and then calling someone again to get into the house. Fortunately we leave a spare key with some neighbors so I've been able to get myself in eventually. I'm doing much better these days at taking a housekey with me.

My in-laws have a very old version of this technology. I put the key in the lock and turned – the key twisted and broke! I hadn’t had time to make a spare! It was freezing outside.

I rang and knocked on the landlord’s door, but could not get his attention. I had a cell phone and called information to get my landlord’s phone number. The operator said there was nobody by that name on the street! I told her I was standing in front of the door! I gave her the house number and she gave me a number I knew was wrong – and the name of the owner was wrong.

Being new in the area and having nowhere to go, I drove 60-miles to my parents house to sleep! Next day, I gave the twisted remains of the keys to my brother, who works in a hardware store. He made three copies and two worked.

The next day, the landlord told he’d always had problems with the phone book and mail because there is another house somewhere with the same number! I asked him where it was and he didn’t know! (It’s a long rural road).

A weird welcome to the neighborhood.Petehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05385390257522412914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29528281.post-45460282683665049542008-07-23T18:16:00.000-05:002008-07-23T18:16:00.000-05:00My husband had to knock out one of the little wind...My husband had to knock out one of the little windows in our back door-and it is still broken 3 months later! We try to keep our doors locked at all times, except when we step outside briefly. Mom is bad about opening the back door to "see what is happening" and then closing and locking the door -- never checking to see if I have stepped out. She locks me out about once a month. No amount of bell ringing or door banging will get her attention. I just have to wait (rain, heat, snow) until she misses me and comes out to see where I am. Mom doesn't like keys to be hidden outside... just one of her things. I would be ever so grateful to have a lock like this!!!
