her comment: This looks like it was made for me, I love pinks/plums/purples. Thanks so much for the giveaway, crossing my fingers!
This is my first time participating in a Blog Carnival, so I'm excited. And, for once, it's not all about your kids, either! This time, I'm giving away a cute little makeup palette from Too Faced which I had every intention of using but, well, I just don't get out very much these days. And yet I still buy way too much makeup.
I love its retro pulp paperback styling and compact size– a little bigger than a business card but smaller than a deck of cards. Tiny enough to slip into your diaper bag, for sure, and even a shirt pocket if necessary, but it features two eye shadows, two lip glosses and blush in a "passionate plum palette." I think it would suit most skin tones.
To enter and win this Too Faced Quickie Chronicle in Temptress (a $15 value!), please comment on this post with your favorite makeup story! Entries will be accepted through February 3rd and I'll pick the winner using Random.org. I will ship anywhere for the sake of Bloggy fun, so please enter wherever you may live.
Make sure you leave an email address in your comment or that you have one accessible on your blog so you can be contacted if you win! If I can't find your email, I will have to pick a new winner. Only one entry/comment per person, please.
More contests coming soon, please visit again!***
I'm just now getting into make up: not because my mom wouldn't let me wear any growing up, but because I was always worried that my brothers would make fun of me...so I would always lie and say that my mom wouldn't let me wear any in high school.
ReplyDeleteOoo, I LOVE Too Faced! Awesome giveaway! I'm not sure I have a favorite story, so how about my least favorite: when I was on vacation in Mexico, I dropped my make up bag hard enough to break three of the compacts & all of my eyeshadow crumbled in their containers. Needless to say, I found a big mess in my make up bag when I picked it up. Does that count? haha :)
ReplyDeleteI want one!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway - I actually just started wearing makeup on a reg basis in the past few years - just turned 40 and so now I really need it LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt really is difficult to find just the right stuff for your skin type without spending a fortune too.
My current fav is Ultra smooth foundation by The Body Shop - even covers my rosesca.
I'm so pleased to be your very first entry in your very first Blog Carnival. Pick me pick me pick me. The first time I ever wore makeup in public was when I was about 12 years old. My parents had to go out, so my sister and I were to walk to a neighbor's home for dinner and stay there until they picked us up. I thought it would be safe to wear makeup since my mother wouldn't be there and proceeded to put on some of her blue, yes blue, eyeshadow. My younger sister told me I was going to get in trouble, but too bad. Anyway, long story short--we got to the neighbor's house. After about 5 minutes, the wife said to me "honey, what did you do to your eye? Is that a bruise? Oh my both of your eyes are bruised. Let me get some ice." She made me lay on the couch with an ice pack on my head. I was extremely embarrassed. Even my sister showed me no mercy. Anyway, I have NEVER worn blue eye shadow again.
ReplyDeleteA favorite makeup story, that is a hard one. But I am going to say when my two year old baby girl got into every product I own. Boy, did she look good!

A couple of years ago I took the plunge and went to the local MAC counter for a consult. I left with a ton of goodies, all excited to try my hand with my new make-up, and a couple nights later, went out with some girlfriends. They all noticed my make-up immediately and I beamed in pride until one kind-hearted friend pulled me aside and gently told me that it was just too dark and I may want to work on blending and using a lighter touch.
ReplyDeleteI was mortified, but haven't made the same mistake since!

I really can't think of a story but would still like to enter.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this. I am so boring and always wear the same thing. This looks like a great set and may give me the extra umpf to try something new!
ReplyDeleteLove the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy best makeup story is coming home, and finding DD (age3) putting on makeup in the bathroom. (Dad didn't realize that no noise is a clue that something bad is happening) Anyway, I say her, covered in garish eyeshadow, heavy blush, and bright red lipstick, and she asken me "Mama am I beautiful?" I just melted....and made sure my makeup was locked up after that...but I did buy her some inexpensive powder , lipgloss, and nude colored blush and eyeshadow for play... (She has to scrub before we go out)
When I was a little girl, I got into my mother's body powder and painted my face white and then proceeded to get out her nail polish and paint my whole feet.
ReplyDeleteMy fav story is like many of the others...when their child got into their makeup. Well, I have a boy and he didn't get into makeup, but he got into body butter. It was EVERYWHERE!!!! And do you know how hard that stuff is to get off?
ReplyDeleteMy best makeup story was when my 2 yr old dumped my b.e. eyeliner and husband had to buy me a new one and in the process I got the new platinum kit! I had to post about it on my blog. She still loves to get into my makeup.
ReplyDeletewhen I turned 16 my father said I could finally use makeup... all my friends had been using it since they were like 12! lol so HE decided for my birthday that year he would buy me some and instead of consulting someone as to what would go with my coloring... he simply went and bought what colors he thought were "pretty"! I ended up with light blue and green eyeshadows, dark purple lipstick and almost red blush to go with my olive skin and very dark read hair! I eventually ended up using it for an art project in college!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!!! I'm just starting to get into "grown up" makeup! LOL!
ReplyDeletecdcmail(at)gmail(dot)com
Oh gosh, this couldn't come at a better time- I could REALLY use this ! My favorite makeup story? Well, the time I had a bunch of bloggers go without makeup was fun... here! Believe me- I couldn't wait to get my makeup back on!!
ReplyDeleteSteph
Ooh I love two faced stuff!
ReplyDeleteWhat happens if you don't have a makeup story. I don't wear makeup but I've just been looking into it.
ReplyDeleteI have supersensitive skin, so some make up makes me look even worse! I love Two faced products!

Every now and then, my husband grabs my pineapple lip balm instead of his Carmex. It always gives me a terrible scare when I kiss him!

When I was 9-ish, my mother, sister and I would do makeovers on each other. One time I gave my mother little eyeliner curlicues next to her eyes and she never let me do her make-up again without giving me a hard time about it.
ReplyDeletewow this is a great selection of colors! fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeleteA few of my fav girlfriend throw an annual Girlie Gala - crazy themes, lots of goodies, yummy drinks and silly games. Basically a grown-up slumber party. A couple years ago one of the games was a blindfolded make-over. I was one of the people being 'made' so I wasn't blindfolded. Watching 15 hooded girls applying make-up to friends was one of the funniest things I've seen - lots of giggles and wow did we look hot after that game.
ReplyDeleteGreat prize! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were younger, my sister and I were given makeup in these plastic 4x7 trays that was probably tinkerbell or bonne bell or something like that! We made ourselves up all the time and it was so much fun to wear blue to our eyebrows and pink to our ears. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Giveaway!

ReplyDeleteWell, one am- I realized that I had forgottne to pack any makeup on a business trip! EEK- I went down to the hotel desk to find out what might be close and open- and the desk clerk knew an avon lady and called her and she came to the hotel 10 minutes later and helped me out!

ReplyDeletegreat giveaway!
ReplyDeletei could use some new makeup!
thanks :)
My older sister is artsy fartsy which means my little sister and myself would always end up being her model for whatever she was into at that point in her life. For a while she was really into make-up and liked to play the make-up artist. We hated having her put make-up on us because when she'd put eyeshadow on us it felt like she was licking her finger and putting it on our eye lid - cold and wet. Still to this day we have no idea what she was doing. Maybe she really was doing that!

I used to work for Clinique as a makeup artist and my favorite time is when I got to do makeup for a drag queen that had some sort of "show" that night :) needless to say, i got to use more color than usual!
ReplyDeleteI was an everyday make-up wearer from the time I was 13 (I used it before, but Mom wouldn't let me leave the house with it on my face until then) until I was 22. What happened? I got pregnant and figured out I could sleep an extra 15 minutes every day if I didn't fuss with my face. When I was 27 and had 2 kids under my belt I turned to my husband and said "Does it bother you I don't do my hair and make-up anymore?" He looked at me for a minute and said "I am pretty sure there is no safe way to answer that question." I am now an everyday make-up wearer again!!!! :) I love that man!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, please enter me
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway. Thanks for offering it. My best makeup story is going to a makeup counter and getting a real makeover from my mom for my 15th birthday. I felt like a princess.
ReplyDeleteI received this fabulous sample of face lotion in the mail and completely fell in love with it. It made my skin feel smooth and silky. When I took a closer look at the sample, I discovered that it was hair cream! Hey - at least it worked.
ReplyDeleteI have a VERY romantic Hubby, he's always leaving me little notes here and there. I just wish he wouldn't use my cover-up stick, lipliner and lipsticks to write them on the bathroom mirror (a dry bar of soap works just as well and costs FAR less)....this gorgeous palette may just throw him off a little LOL ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your thoughtfulness
Cheers

Wow! A makeup story. What a hard request. LOL it was probably when I was a little girl and used to paint my dog's toenails. Nail polish remover does not work on porous nails. Poor thing had red toenails for a looooong time. =)
ReplyDeleteI wanna be a Temptress! Please count me in.

Sometimes I forget I have make up on and rub my eyes. Well I did that and smeared my mascara, my husband asked me if I was tired because of my dark circles.
ReplyDeleteI had a boyfriend who, when I would put on make up, would say that I was puttin on "war paint".
ReplyDeleteWhen I had my hair done for prom my mom decided to splurge and get my makeup done at the same time. The girl doing my makeup didn't seem like she wanted to and when I left I looked like a clown. My mom kept saying how great it looked and I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I actually went to my prom with my clown face on.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I would love to be entered into your awesome giveaway! Thanks!
I used to work at an attorneys office and obviously one morning I got into too big of a hurry...I put mascara on my bottom lashes but not the top. Another paralegal pointed that out....
ReplyDeleteI remember the first time I ever got my makeup done professionally. I came out looking like a well really a tramp. I went home, washed it off, and did it myself from then on. For some reason people always think I need dark black mascara and eye liner. I disagree!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I had a funny (or any good) makeup story to share but I don't. Hopefully you'll still enter me in the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy step daughter decided she wanted to run for a Queen's Competition which meant learning how to wear make up, model, learn new riding patterns with her horse, and all kinds of good stuff.
ReplyDeleteOne night her Dad and I decided to go out dancing and she begged and pleaded to be allowed to do my eye makeup. I sat on a stool in our bathroom and let her make all the final touches.
She comes out of the bathroom with me and announces to her Dad doesn't she look lovely!
It was really very sweet, : )
a funny makeup story? well, my stepson wanted his toes painted like mine when he was about 5. so, of course, i did. his dad was less than thrilled!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a teenager, I had a cat. Well, one day, just before prom, the before mentioned cat decided it would be fun to a) eat my lipstick, and b) proceed to chew on my $300 prom dress. In that order.
ReplyDeleteSounds Great..fav story..well I can't bring eyeliner or mascara close to my eyes!

No story comes to mind right now, but i still would liek to enter.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite makeup story... hmm. Well, it's not a "favorite" but it certainly is the most entertaining: DS 23 mo gets into EVERYTHING nowadays, including my makeup. I've caught him several times, mutilating my lipsticks by trying to apply them like chapstick (only forcibly). I should take photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win this fun makeup set. :-)
Great contest! I want to win!! I dont really have a funny makeup story, except the time I put it on as a kid and outlined my lips since it was all the rage.. i looked dreadfully awful!
ReplyDelete(click my name for my contact information)
My only cute makeup story would have to be when I came into the bathroom and saw my son with a mouthful of my brand new mac lipstick.
ReplyDeleteouch.
When I was 15 I visited my older sister..she though it would be fun to put make-up on me since I never wore any before. Well when she finished I felt like I looked like a Wh*re. She made me go out in public and I felt like everybody was staring at me,LOL. NOw I wear make-up all the time but I will never forget my 1st time!!!
ReplyDeletethank you for this awesome giveaway. please put my name in the hat too! good luck everyone.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite storyis when I dress up to go ouot and my 5 year old comes in and ohh and ahhs over how prett I look - then I swish the (mpty) make up brushed over her skin and she just beams!

My favorite make up story happened recently. My husband saw a picture from junior high when I first started wearing make up. He said, "I did not know you were goth."
ReplyDeleteAnd I said, "I did not know I was either". Looks like I had a little trouble early on!!
I would love this.

ReplyDeleteI love makeup and always up for trying new products. My favorite makeup story is of my 5 years old Niece putting makeup on in the car. She tried so hard to get the eyeshadow on perfectly, but instead it ended up all down her cheeks.
ReplyDeleteI remember in the 80's I used to line the inside of my lower eyelids and on the outside (top and bottom) of my eyes with bright blue eyeliner pencil! I saw it in a magazine that said Princess Diana did her eyes like that. I actually liked that look, too! Obviously, I don't do it now! LOL! Thanks so much for doing this!

ReplyDeleteMy makeup story is from my teenage years. I was fifteen and still wasn't allowed to wear makeup. I was WAY outside the cool kid zone at that point. So one night, my Mom decided to talk to my Dad about it. The conversation went something like this:
ReplyDelete"I think we should let Brekke start wearing makeup."
"But...her boobs are big."
*insert my mother reportedly almost laughing herself out of the car*
"What does THAT have to do with makeup?"
The response was something about how boys already had something to look at why add to it. In the end, I got to wear makeup. But...that story will likely haunt me forever. :)
Can't think of a fave make up story, but I know I get excited everytime I set foot in Sephora. I love that place, and I love make up!

My favorite make-up story? I was acting in a friend's short film projectwhen the make-up volunteer didn't show. So I did all the guy's fight scene make-up using eyeshadow, mascara, concealer, lipstick, and powder--whatever I'd happened to bring that day for myself. And it didn't look half-bad!

This looks like it was made for me, I love pinks/plums/purples. Thanks so much for the giveaway, crossing my fingers!
ReplyDeleteI'm a makeup addict & love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI started getting into makeup at a very young age & my mother has pictures of me, having snuck into her makeup case while she was napping - when I was about 3.
My sons have both done the same to me as revenge. Man that Cover Girl all day lipstick is hard to get off of little ones. *lol*
I rarely wear makeup... no time! I love it though. My bff did my makeup for my wedding and she had such a professional setup that everyone thought she was a professional makeup artist. My sis in law asked her how much she charged! LOL
ReplyDeletei would love to win this palette, it would be fabulous on my cocoa skin. my makeup story is a HUGE faux pas---back in high school i let my bff convince me to use my lipstick as eyeshadow also so that it could ALL MATCH! oh, thank goodness my makeup skills have improved drastically...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! Please enter me, arogers(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteoh, very neat. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway!! Ok, this is totally embarrassing but I went to this place to have my eyebrows waxed that I had never been to before. It felt like the lady was putting alot of wax on but I trusted that she knew what she was doing...boy was I wrong! When she was finished and she handed me the mirror she had taken off over half of each of my eyebrows!!!! I didn't even look like the same person, I was absolutely devastated and spent the next few weeks trying to draw on eyebrows until they grew back!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Too Faced, but I'd like to try it. I don't have great make-up skills, but it's always fun to try something new once in a while. Thank you for hosting!

ReplyDeleteI don't know that I have a great make-up story... my best friend did my makeup for my wedding, because I'm not very good at it... and it was really beautiful!

ReplyDeleteCool! Count me in!!
ReplyDeleteWow! A gift for ME? :) When I think of "make-up stories" all I can remember are our endless sleepovers in junior high, learning the ins and outs - mostly outs! - of eyeliner and blue eyeshadow.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me. I would love to win this! I've never been a big make up wearer just on special occasions
ReplyDeleteFavorite makeup story????? Oh I guess it would be when I was in fifth or sixth grade and would sneak wearing eye shadow. The eye shadow I loved to try was the Mary Kay stuff you had to wet. Green and blue were my faves. I am sure I looked hideous!!! I think I am a bit better without having to wet my makeup first.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the sleepover I had with my older cousin. By the time she was done I looked exactly like Elizabeth Perkins in He said She said (except for the fact that I was 11)
ReplyDeleteI have always loved makeup, and shopping for it! It always cheers up a blue day!
ReplyDeletevalgallen@gmail.com
I don't wear much makeup to work. Basically, none at all. One day I wore Burt's Bees tinted lip gloss (hardly any color at all!) and my boss was like "Are you wearing MAKEUP!?" Goodness!
ReplyDeleteI love make-up in every form!
ReplyDeleteMake up, yey!
ReplyDeleteSweet prize! I love it! Count me in please!
ReplyDeleteWow, those colors are great! My fav makeup story is the day I first discovered the wonder of mineral make up! I had a hot date with my hubby and a blemish on my face that no ordinary make up could tame. I made a few swirls of the brush and VIOLA! it was LIKE MAGIC! My face was beautiful and I got some! ;-) YAY MINERAL MAKEUP!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite makeup story...I can tell you that in 7th grade I wore cobalt blue mascara and kind of white sparkly lipstick...it was hot. THe colors in your giveaway look more like the colors I should have been wearing.
ReplyDeletecalgarygal@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy makeup story is when I was around 6 or 7 and came across a bag of my mom's makeup. Well, unfortunately my mom was taking a nap that afternoon and so I went to town with the makeup and she awoke to find a harlot for a daughter. Either that or a poorly made up clown. She laughed so much she nearly peed her pants!
To be honest, I'm just starting to want to wear make up... and I have no clue how! I'm going to turn 36 next month and I've only ever worn make up twice. I was a tomboy growing up and was just never interested.
ReplyDeleteEnter me in your giveaway, please. Thank you!
When my little sister was about 2, she got into my mom's (bright red) lipstick. When we found her, we were all shocked because she looked like she had been bleeding copiously from the mouth, all over her hands and soaking into her overalls. Needless to say, we were relieved it was just lipstick, even though it was a big mess to clean up.
ReplyDeletei love makeup!
ReplyDeletethank you~

I am a 31 year old mom, every morning when the kids and I wake up my children sit and quietly watch me brush my hair and do my makeup. There is something very serene to me about this morning ritual and I treasure the conversations we have.
ReplyDeleteI'm albino, so I cannot tan. My firneds once put some very dark base on me and dark make-up so I was tan from the neck up for one night :D

I'll never forget receiving my very 1st makeup. It was my 13th birthday, our company up north at the cottage came back to town and I got Covergirl 'blue' eyeshadow and mascara, my first makeup! I was thrilled that our friends really drove 1/2 an hour each way to get me this...a right of passage. bluemoonbynite@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteI would love a chance to win this! I really enjoy sets like this one! Thanks!
ReplyDeletei dont really have any makeup stories, but i can tell u that this would be put to good use!!
ReplyDeleteMy funny make-up story is that I rarely wore any when I worked full-time. Now that I'm a SAHM, I wear it all the time. I guess I need that pick-me-up more now, than I did then! Terrific giveaway! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I drove my daughter to the airport this week, one of her bags was over weight. We found out that she had 1 1/2 pounds of make-up, but removing it was not an option for her, so she left books and sensible clothing behind instead!
ReplyDeletegpc49@yahoo.com
Why should I win - what do I love about makeup? It is that you can play and it brings back all the joys of childhood and dress-up! Plus you look pretty!
ReplyDeletejulieahudson[at]hotmail[.]com
When I started wearing makeup, I used to match my outfits, but quickly learned that wasn't the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have an interesting story, but once I was doing my makeup on the way to work and decided to wait until I got there to put on my mascara and lipstick. I forgot, and went the whole day looking weird and lashless, and nobody said anything but I know they must've thought I looked strange! ksrutledge at hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 15 I hadn't started wearing any makeup yet so my wonderful mom decided it was time for me to have my first make over. She made an appointment for a consultation at Clinique and ended up buying me all the makeup that they used for my makeover. Then she then took me to have my hair cut and styles. I have never felt so pampered and special as I did that day! I hope to be able to do this for my daughter when she's old enough. Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!! I would be thrilled to win!
ReplyDeleteI really do not have a story, I was not allowed to wear make-up in my teenage years, so right now, I experiment. I would sure love to win

Hmmm... makeup story... I keep trying mineral makeup because it looks like so much fun. But every time, it looks weird on my face and I end up giving it away.
ReplyDeleteI got sucked in again just before Christmas and came home with another starter set. I'm trying to salvage some of it, but it's not looking good.
Would love to add this to my collection - please count me in
ReplyDeleteHow about last night when Mom came up to me at church and asked, "Is that a bruise?" Then I brushed off a little too much face powder off my chin. Ugh! And I had been wearing it that way all evening!
ReplyDeleteI was at the mall with my bf and I was wearing eye make up (mascara, some light shadow). We are walking and talking and suddenly he got a bit quiet and started staring at my face. He's not the type to gaze you into the eyes and declare his love, so I got a bit nervous. He just kept on staring, and finally I asked (in a small voice)... "whats wrong?". he replied (very seriously): "your makeup is all over your face".
ReplyDeleteturned out my new mascara flaked off in big chunks all under my eyes and on my cheeks... *slapforehead*
Very nice, thanks.
ReplyDeleteOnce, I was wearing false eyelashes and I forgot to take them off and went to sleep with them on. One came off in the middle of the night and found its way to my mouth somehow. I woke up screaming, thinking that there was a bug in my mouth and my roommate was none to pleased to be woken up for a false alarm at 3 in the morning! Thank you for this amazing giveaway and please enter me!

ReplyDeleteOh gosh, not sure I have a good story... except that my hubby just got an iPod Nano for us, and I had it in my purse the other day... it has a black rubber skin on it so he would look cool carrying it too, and my blusher broke and spilled sparkly dust all over the inside of my purse.
ReplyDeleteNow I have a sparkly Nano.
Its all mine now.
I LOVE the packaging on the makeup! So fab!

My favorite make up story is actually about my now 6 year old when she was about 3. She was visiting my Mom who adores her and will let her do all sorts of things. When I came to pick her up, the first thing Mom said was there something they needed to tell me about...then I saw my daughter. She looked like she had been beaten from ear to ear. Apparently Mom left her alone with her make up for a few minutes and that was all it took...my daughter had 'decorated' her entire face with brown and blue shades of eye shadow, thus the bruised look. She thought she looked be-u-tee-ful so how could we be mad.:D

ReplyDeleteI was getting ready to go see family today and my boyfriend was sweet and told me I looked pretty. I said thank you. Then he kind of stuck his foot in his mouth and said 'It's been a long time since you looked pretty like that'.
ReplyDeleteThen I just said 'Thanks alot'
Obviously I need makeup so I can look pretty every day.
