Climbing the Secret Mountain

The Secret Mountain (La Montagne Secrète) is a Montreal-based company that produces high quality French and English-language entertainment for children. Their titles are available as beautifully illustrated picture books with accompanying audio CDs or as CD-only digipaks. All CDs include PDF files of musical charts, lyrics and English translations that you can download on your computer, if you happen to be musical and bilingual.

Dream Songs Night Songs from Belgium to Brazil is a collection of 13 lullabies from all over the world (Israel, Senegal, Indonesia, Germany…), sung in their indigenous languages. The storybook features lush interpretations of the songs and text in French, English and Spanish.

Down at the Sea Hotel boast 14 songs of dreamy inspiration written by artists like Neil Young, Tom Waits, Nanci Griffith, Don Henley, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Billy Joel as performed by roots music artists Eliza Gilkyson, John Gorka, Guy Davis, Lucy Kaplansky, Lynn Miles and The Wailin’ Jennys.

The third book, A Duck in New York City, written by singer-songwriter Connie Kaldor, really struck a chord with Roo. Maybe it's because we live in Kansas and it's about a prairie duck who sets out for Broadway. The girl loves show tunes. Anyway, the 12 songs are hilarious. Be prepared to hear it again and again…

Thanks to Team Mom for introducing us to The Secret Mountain.
