In Ninja-Cowboy-Bear, Everyone Wins

Oh, how I love it when the anticipated cuteness actually matches up to a good, solid kid's book. Too often, the illustrations are adorable but the story… sucks. This is especially true in this revolutionary era of computer aided graphic design. (Just because you can use Illustrator doesn't mean you are an illustrator…) Anyway, I am so pleased to report that the new book Ninja-Cowboy-Bear by David Bruins and Hilary Leung is as much fun to read as it is to look at.

The Legend of Ninja-Cowboy-Bear is a story about three friends (a ninja, a cowboy and a bear if you couldn't guess!) who try to out-do one another but come to realize that each one has his own special talents. It's a simple premise but the story is sweet and even introduces an eponymous game. It's similar to rock-paper-scissors but is more amusing because it requires more flamboyant gesticulation:

Roo was mimicking the characters for quite a while… fun. As an added bonus, the environmental impact of printing The Legend of Ninja-Cowboy-Bear is offset by an agreement with Eco-Libris: for every book printed, a tree will be planted. Order your copy online now!
