***CONGRATULATIONS!!!***
#5 Jackelyn and #65 Sheila R (both non-bloggers)
I have been a make-up addict since I was in elementary school and decided to send away for one of those "get a zillion dollars worth of designer cosmetics for only $1" ads in the back of a magazine. I remember the excitement at receiving something in the mail that promised transformation and glamour… of course, I was well below make-up wearing age and, rather embarrassingly, I tried to pay for the resulting monthly cosmetic subscription in change stuffed into an envelope. The postman tipped my mom off and I was in trouble with a capital T. Looking back on it, I wonder how my mother was able to stifle her laughter when presented with the business sized envelope spilling over with pennies and nickels. I had that stackable Calvin Klein-branded palette for a loooong time, as a reminder of my infractions. I thought it was slightly more noble than the girls who were shoplifting eyeliner and Lipsmackers at the grocery store…
Flash forward a couple of decades and I still love the beauty booty. Despite the fact that I rarely go out at night anymore and probably wear less makeup now than I did in high school, I do still like to stay up to date with makeup trends. I like to read beauty magazines and browse the makeup counters… it's okay to be a femme feminist, right? Anyway, one of the hottest beauty trends right now is vibrating mascara wands. The vibration is supposed to mimic the actions of pulling and jiggling at the same time, keeping lashes separated while evenly coating them with mascara. Everyone knows that mascara is a quick eye-opener, so obviously this could be a great find. Unfortunately, most of the brands offering vibrating mascara cost upwards of $30 a tube, which is definitely more than I'd like to spend on what could end being a novelty item.
Thankfully, I'm part of the More Than Elevenmoms community, which is not surprisingly an offshoot of Walmart's highly successful Elevenmoms program. They sent me a care package featuring the new Maybelline Define-A-Lash Pulse Perfection mascara to try out.
I think most women are familiar with Maybelline Great Lash mascara since it's come in the same iconic pink and green tube for as long as I can remember. And it works, consistently. I was hoping that Define-A-Lash Pulse Perfection could work as well. And it does. I'll admit I was a little put off by the buzzing wand initially and I clumsily gooped it up on my first try. Once I got used to the vibrating aspect, it really did make putting on mascara quick and easy. True to its name, Define-A-Lash Pulse Perfection vibrates 7000 times per stroke, evenly darkening lashes while separating them. Once I got the hang of it, I could even swoosh the wand upwards to mimic a curling action. I was suitably impressed, although the definition you get when you take the time to curl your lashes before applying the mascara is even better.
To enter and win a tube of Define-A-Lash Pulse Perfection, please comment on this post with your favorite make-up trick. There will be two winners.
Entries will be accepted through June 3rd and I'll pick the winner using Random.org. US readers are eligible.

This is just the perfect mascara for you. Geek mascara. I always manage to clump my mascara so much that I look like Endora from Bewitched.
ReplyDeleteSince my eyes areteeny tiny slots, I use black eyeliner in the corners to open them up and define them. Widely known trick but one that I live by.
I just love your story of pennies and nickles delivery. SO sweet.

ReplyDeleteMy trick is to heat the eye-lash curler for a couple seconds with my hair dryer. It gives a nicer curl!
ReplyDeletehockiemack at hotmail.com
My trick is that I put a darker shade of brownish blush on the sides of my nose. the darker cover gives the illusion of a more slender nose, not so wide. I sometimes put just a dab on my dimples and it makes them show up more when I smile.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite makeup trick is to use Lipgloss in the summer and lipstick in the winter... Why do I do this.. because I live in GA and a tub of lipstick MELTS in 2 seconds FLAT in my purse.. YUP.. so come about MAY, I switch to a gloss... other wise I wind up with a HUGE mess in the bottom of my bag
ReplyDeleteThen around October I can toss a lipstick, in addition to the gloss back in my purse. I know it sounds weird, but that is what I am used to... PLUS I think Gloss looks "lighter" for summer!!!
Thanks for the chance to win This GREAT mascara!!!
YAY

I have really deep set eyes, so my make up trick is to put concealer and a very light shade in my crease to keep it from looking so dark. Thanks for sharing~

My fave makeup trick is to put a dab of a lighter, shimmery color on the inner corners of my eyes to give me more of an awake, alert look. Sometimes to jazz it up I'll make it a brighter more colorful shade to really spice things up. I did this alot when I waitressed so I'd look fresh and alert the whole night through!

ReplyDeleteMy tip is a little blush on the tip of the nose - just a tad, not too much. It seems to balance the face.

I've always only used eyeliner on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI do mascara on the tops and bottoms of my lashes. Not on my bottom lashes - that makes me look like a muppet. But on the top side of my top lashes, plus the bottom.
ReplyDeleteOh, and ALWAYS wear mascara. Amen.
a little concealer on the sides of my upper nose near eyes - makes it look thinner

My trick is to swipe a bit of blush between the girls to create an illusion of cleavage.
My favorite make-up tip is to keep a lighter in your make-up case to use just before you apply eye liner to your bottom eye lid. Barely braise your eyeliner pencil with flame and then apply. It goes on perfectly.

ReplyDeleteAt 47, I need make-up tricks.
ReplyDeleteI brush blush down the sides of my neck and just under my jawline to define my neck away from the double chin. I also put white show on the inside and outer corners of my eyes to open my eyes.
My make-up trick for dramatic eyes is to start with mascara and continue to layer it on several times during your make-up application process.

Living in the heart of hot and humid, liquid or creamy eyeliners tend to slide all over your face leaving you looking like a racoon. Instead, I use a fine brush and powdered eyeliner (or black eyeshadow).
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this.
ReplyDeleteMy mascara my trick is wet the lashes, curl with an eyelash curler, apply to coats of mascara, curl again, then add the last coat of mascara. It's a little process, but it works!

My makeup tip is: when applying a liquid foundation, I mix a dab with my face lotion to evenly apply. At night I put vaseline all over my face for about 10 minutes before removing it. I also rub my feet with vaseline and wear socks when I sleep - when I remove them, looks and feels like I used a paraffin dip.

I have super fair skin, which tends to look washed out in pictures. I have been applying a light pink mineral eyeshadow on my face under my creme foundation and now my skin never looks washed out. I know that they sell other products to do the same thing, but I had this eyeshadow and it works. vidomich(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteMy makeup tip is to avoid dying out your tube of mascara don't pump it do take out the brush instead try to swab it in a circular direction to get the product out. Pumping your mascara will dry it out quicker and also introduce outside pollutant into the tube that develop bacteria.
