Genetic Memory

I recently wrote about how much I think Roo resembles my paternal grandmother, pictured here with a bunch of her brothers probably in the 1930s.

Here's a detail of grandma, along with a picture of the Rooster for comparison:

Sure, there's a family resemblance. But this week, I received another photo in the mail. It's obviously from a long time ago, too, but it looks amazingly like a picture of Roo. Crazy curls, mischievous twinkle in the eye, etc.

Bob's paternal grandmother sent the photo. She always tells us that Roo reminds her of one of her cousins and boy, does she ever!

Coincidentally, this cousin ended up living in Hawaii, where I grew up, not in West Virginia where Bob's family is from. She should be in her sixties now. I would love to take the kids to Kauai one of these days to meet her and introduce her to her tiny doppelganger. Obviously, Roo is a pretty good mix of both sides of the family!
