Method Madness

Is it weird to have a crush on a product line? Not when the product line is vast, eco-friendly, great smelling and irreverent. Did I mention the packaging? Totally cute. And their motto is People Against Dirty. I soooo have a crush on Method.

It all started with Method Hand Wash, which I picked up solely for good looks. (I am partial to the Sea Mineral. It smells faintly of the ocean, and is available in handy refills.) From there, I moved on to household cleaners, air fragrance and laundry products… I hate cleaning, but Method makes it less of a chore. I was excited to hear they were expecting a new arrival: a baby and kids' collection. When we received some samples, I couldn't wait to try them out. Bath time, kids!

As with all Method product, the baby and kids' stuff "contains no animal by-products, numbing agents, SLS/SLES or parabens + never tested on rubber duckies." It says so right on the label. First up is the Method Baby Squeaky Green Hair + Body Wash in rice milk + mallow. All of the baby line (bubble bath, lotion and diaper cream) features this fragrance, which is light and subtly sweet. Sort of creamy and musky. Actually pretty baby-like. The squatty pump is easy to use one-handed and the green cap can be used as a rinse cup/bath toy. It seems very gentle on Jasper's skin and left a faint, pleasant scent. I am anxious to try the diaper cream and lotion next.

We also tried the Squeaky Green Kids 3-in-1 Shampoo in Fuzzy Peach. The Method Kids' line also features a body wash and both products are also available in Crisp Apple. The bottle (the peach scent is pale orange and the apple is green) is made of a tactile rubbery material looks vaguely like Doraemon. Roo thinks it is totally hilarious that it squirts out the bottom when you squeeze it. The scent is similar to the Rice Milk + Mallow, but slightly fruitier. Roo's skin is pretty dry and her hair has a tendency to frizz, but we didn't need to use additional products after using this in the bath. It didn't lather up like her other products do, so she wanted to use more of it. Or maybe she just wanted to see it squirt out the butt more. She's four, you know.

Method's other new arrival is their book, Squeaky Green: The Method Guide to Detoxing Your Home. I like how they've taken all the often dogmatic information about our toxic lifestyles and homes and broken it down with their inimitable charm. It really is a step-by-step guidebook and often very funny and enlightening.

Now if Method could only make my kids better sleepers and eaters…
