Peek A Boo!

winner: TooMuchRock

I've been using computers daily for at least fifteen years but I am still kind of a luddite. Text messaging and social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace totally freak me out. (I must admit that I keep pages on both, just on the off chance someone from junior high wants to find me. It's happened a couple of times already…) Since I started blogging, my email volume has gotten crazy and it's hard to manage on the go since for some reason I decided a desktop computer would be more practical than a laptop. I recently received a Peek device to try out and discovered the exciting world of emailing while waiting for preschool pick-up. It's easy to get hooked on.

The Peek is a cute handheld device that resembles a PDA with a screen and keypad. What makes Peek different than a smartphone or PDA is actually the things it doesn't feature– unlike those devices, Peek is dedicated solely to email. It has nationwide wireless coverage and can be purchased at any Target store (or online) for about $100, with a flat $20 monthly subscription fee that can be cancelled at any time.

I love the Peek concept and it is very handy for receiving emails and small JPG attachments, but I did miss being able to click a link in an email and pull up a website for more information. (I am such visual media junkie!) I think it could be a great way to introduce older relatives who are internet hold-outs to the concept of staying in touch via email. If you had a dedicated email account for important missives only, Peek would be a great tool. Also worth noting: Oprah included Peek in this December's O List!

To enter and win a Peek in your choice of color (device only, monthly subscription fees not included), please comment on this post and let me know how you would use a Peek.

Entries will be accepted through November 26th and I'll pick the winner using Random.org. US readers are eligible. Only one entry/comment per person, please.

For an additional entry, post my button on your blog, fave me on Technorati or subscribe via email or subscribe via reader and leave an extra comment letting me know. You may also leave an extra comment with your favorite non-Tea Party post from any of my co-hosts' blogs! Just visit Angie, Candice, Cheryl, Kathleen, or Kristin, read a bit, and leave the URL in a separate comment– that's up to five extra chances to win in each giveaway!

Get another extra entry (and get into the Tea Party mood!) by putting our button on your sidebar (code is below, just copy and paste):

  3. Oh my! If Oprah likes it, then count me in!
These look quite handy and I'll tell ya how I'd use it. when Mr. Man insists that we go away and I relax (eek), he says "no laptops". I nearly die! At least with one of these, I could stay in somewhat of a cyber communication.
I guess I'd pick the silver should I have a lucky number here.
    Thanks for the chance!

  24. This is EXACTLY what I need and I didn't even know it existed. Rock on.

I want a blue on, pretty please.

I'm a massage therapist and my clients can email me, and my online booking emails me to let me know when I get a new appointment. Having one means I could tackle work email between clients without having to go home, be able to send info to people while I'm out, and wouldn't have to get sms messages to my phone (which would save me $$).

    I want one now...

  85. What a neat little "Gadget". This is exactly what I need to solve my problem. You see for the past 6 years we have been going to our wooded lot and building a house. One Pay check at a time so eventually we will not have to rent any longer and we will own a home of our own. Two more years and counting until it will be finished enough to move into. The problem is while I am there I have no internet (we lug water so internet is not even in the picture at this point)and by the time I return to civilization my email is back logged with hundreds and hundreds of email and it takes me the next two days to clean it out and I don't have time to enjoy my PC like I would like to. Finally come Tuesday I can Blog or check out some other sites I like reading. So I end up with only 3 days a week to be able to do what I want to do because then the cycle starts all over again. The "PEEK" would be perfect for keeping my email under control and cleaned up since it is wireless any where~! I can't even imagine being able to check my email at the house lot any time I want. That is just amazing~! Now I'm off to Blog about this too cool of a "Gadget". Thanks for sharing.

  145. My wife has some severe medical conditions, and we are on the road at least three days a week to go to her medical appointments. This would help me to stay on top of my emails and my eBay auctions.

    ReplyDelete
  146. That would be a nice way to check emails anywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  147. I would give this awesome gift to my grandmother. A computer is too overwhelming for her, but the peek would be perfect!!

  148. I would love this as a very easy way to keep track of my nanny charges schedules...as one mom emails me and the other texts me all the time with schedule changes. With this I could just have them both email me and voila!! I have their schedules right in front of me!!
This would be even more handy once I start my own personal organizer business...to email clients and so forth...as well as keeping track of any other appointments.

  149. this would be a great way to get my mom into email and introduce her to new technology. I think the silver one would be a good choice for her!

  151. I am aaaall about the Black Cherry Peek. This would most definitely come in handy when I am getting anxious about checking my e-mails to see if I've won any cool contest (such as this won!) and to check up on the latest happenings with my favorite bloggers! I totally hope I win this because waiting till 6p every day is kiiiiilling me (oh who am I kidding - I check it about 50x during the day at work - but this would definitely help me focus on work!!! lol). Hope I win!

  159. I'm the only person I know who doesn't own a cell phone & this device would be so helpful to me in order to keep in touch with people when I'm away from home for an extended period of time (vacations, etc.). Also, because emails are sent and received virtually instantly, I could use this to send messages in the case of an emergency. I could use this for personal use, school and for work. Such a cool invention!

  160. What a fun new toy! I'm an e-mail junkie, I'd love being able to check it everywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  161. I love the idea of this device. I'm not all that great with cell phones and I doubt that I'd ever buy myself a PDA. I would use it while shopping to check on deals, to check email while on the go and probably to play games when I'm bored at the Doctor's office. Thanks!

  162. I am a bit obsessed with checking my email WAY too many times a day. This would certainly make it convenient! I don't own a super deluxe cell phone and would never pay their outrageous prices to use the internet anyway. I like the idea of a dedicated unit but not a PDA. I didn't even know this existed!

  163. Wow! I had neveer heard of the Peek until now.. What a neat concept. I would use this as a way to stay in touch. It seems like now that the kids are in school we are so much busier. It would be great to just e-mail teachers when I have a question and to be able to tell work they can just e-mail me when they need me (I work on call).
