Sesame Street Parodies Takes on House of Cards

Sesame Street Parodies has done an incredible job of spoofing pop culture over the past couple of years, and their take on House of Cards, reimagining Frank Underwood as the Big Bad Wolf, is no disappointment.

 

I particularly like the scales of justice and the onscreen texting device. I haven't seen a whole bunch of these since the True Mud (spoof of True Blood) a while back but it looks like those Sesame Workshop Muppets have been busy, making fun of everything from Sons of Anarchy and Downton Abbey to The Hunger Games (Cookie Monster is Katniss and Peeta is a pita bread) and Boardwalk Empire. Some are admittedly funnier than others.

For example, not sure Homelamb would be amusing to anyone – particularly children– who hasn't seen Homeland but fans of the series will love seeing Claire Danes' crazy Carrie portrayed as a flustered sheep in love with a wolf in sheep's clothing… named Baaa-rody.

I may or may not have spent an afternoon going through all of these with Roo. Our family favorite was the Star Wars parody, with Cookie Monster having to learn how to deal with an overpowering urge to eat his copilot, Chewie:


Wasn't it uncanny how much Grover sounded just like Yoda? Ahem.

For those of you who haven't been tuned into Sesame Street since you were a kid, I should also mention that these parodies appear to be an Elmo-free zone so it's safe to tune in.

Disney's Star Wars Trailer (Guardians of the Galaxy Style)

You already know how much I'm looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy, which premieres on August 1, 2014. But did you know that you can join the Guardians team? Well, you can if you're an American kid between the ages of 14-18.

Real life “Guardians of the Galaxy,” young men and women (ages 14-18) from across the United States, are invited to share their stories of how they are bettering their communities through service, science or innovation, and gives them the opportunity to connect with a galaxy of Peer Guides (including representatives from generationOn, Broadcom MASTERS®, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” Ultimate Mentor Leadership Council) to learn from their successes. 

Five winners will each receive: Two round-trip tickets to Hollywood, including hotel accommodations, from July 20 through July 23, 2014, to be on the red carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” on July 21, 2014; an invitation to the first-ever GUARDIANS OF GOOD INNOVATION & SERVICE SUMMIT on July 22 at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, where professionals and peers will share their knowledge; a backstage tour of the Disneyland Resort; and a red-carpet screening of the film at a Dolby® Atmos ^TM Theatre in or near the winner’s hometown.

Disney Villains as The Reprehensibles

"Never send a hero to do a villain's job." That's the motto that Disney villainesses would live by if they decided to form an elite alliance, like the characters in The Expendables! Of course in this instance there would be crimes committed rather than solved, but isn't it more fun to be bad every so often? In a mash-up we have dubbed "The Reprehensibles," 5 of the most notorious Disney baddies have been given their own Expendables style movie poster!

Maleficent has her own movie premiering this Friday, so she insisted on being in the middle. We thought it wise not to argue with Maleficent.

1. MALEFICENT

Maleficent is the self-proclaimed mistress of all evil. With that attitude and those horns, that sounds about right.

2. CRUELLA DE VIL

Few could stand a chance against a woman that delights in causing the untimely demise of puppies.

3. THE EVIL QUEEN

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the baddest of them all?

4. THE QUEEN OF HEARTS

She that liveth by the creed, "off with their heads," pulleth no punches.

5. URSULA 

We pity any poor, unfortunate soul that tangles with this famous sea witch.
