Walnut Scrubber Sponge looks cool.
I may have reviewed BPA-free baby bottles for Z Recommends and ditched the offending brands from my kids' collection or bottles and sippy cups, but I admit to being a total hypocrite about phasing the nasty Bisphenol-A from my own personal water bottles. I've been addicted to Camelbak's Better Bottle since I was pregnant with Jasper and have been using them recklessly, even with the knowledge that my old trusted friends could be leaching toxic yuck that may lead to endocrine failure and other fun stuff. Smart.
Thankfully, the Camelbak Better Bottle has been reformulated in a new BPA-free plastic material. The online emporium of eco-friendly housewares, Let's Go Green, was kind enough to send me some samples from their selection of BPA Free CamelBak bottles. They carry two styles of Camelbak bottles, the Better Bottle and the Podium and I received one of each.
I might have had to ditch my old BPA-laden blue bottles, but now I have a fuschia BPA Free CamelBak bottle! (In theory, the blazingly feminine shade of this bottle will prevent my husband from "borrowing" it from me…) The Better Bottle's bite valve mechanism is easy to use. Jasper has been using it successfully for about a month now and he turns one this weekend. He strongly prefers the Better Bottle to any of the BPA-free sippy cups he's used and it is MUCH more leak-resistant. The only spill issues we have with it are when he sucks up some water and spits it out on purpose, which he does way more often than I would like, unfortunately.
The only reason I chose not to feature a picture of Jasper using the CamelBak Better Bottle is that the bite valve is a separate piece and so, technically, it's a choking hazard for babies and they shouldn't be allowed to use it without supervision. If Camelbak could somehow integrate that piece to the lid or straw so that it didn't pose a choking hazard and scale the actual container back for kids (the .75L size is big for most toddlers, aside from the strapping behemoth that is baby Jasper), I do believe they would have the perfect sippy cup! ***As of 7/23, the .5L (16 oz) bite bottles are now available at Let's Go Green. Yay!***
Let's Go Green also sent Roo a CamelBak Podium, which is a slightly smaller (21 oz/600 ml) bottle with a different valve. It, too, is wonderfully leak-proof, but it is squeezable with a higher flow rate so it is more appropriate for older kids and adults. It's essentially a very efficient bike bottle but the plastic has been reformulated so it won't leave an "off" flavor in your water or sports drink. It's a good design and also BPA-free, but I still prefer the Better Bottle. That bite valve is really fantastic. And the molded in loop is so handy to hook onto a carabiner and dangle from your stroller or diaper bag…
BPA Free bottles aren't the only things you will find to love at Let's Go Green. They carry a huge selection of products designed to make your lifestyle more earth-friendly, from recycled paper products and degradable plasticware (I must admit I did not even know degradable plastic wrap existed!) to water conservation supplies and eco-friendly cleaning products, Let's Go Green is committed to helping you help the planet. They even have affiliate and fundraising programs that certainly beat the wrapping paper and tchotchke nonsense that Roo's brought home from school. (Click here for more info on their fundraising programs.)

My lily loves sippy cups. I love living mess free. I suppose the going green is an added bonus!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I need a new water bottle considering I'm using the "old" Nalgene with nastiness in it as well. I'd like a new one, but the Camelbak looks nice as well. Can I have light blue? :)
ReplyDeleteteacherkrista at gmail dot com
Some really cool stuff on that site. I could really use a new water bottle since I'm also trying to phase out BPA's. I really am curious about the bite-sip feature on the BPA-free 25-oz Water Bottles. I'm a waterholic and this sounds great since I wont have to worry if the bottle is knocked over. I especially like the blue color but really the bite-sip is the main thing that interests me. I've never seen that before. Thanks for a chance to win one.
ReplyDeleteRabbit fu_inle at hotmail dot com
I would really like to try the PVC and Plasticizer Free Clear Plastic Wrap. They have some really great products.
ReplyDeletemichelle at northofthe49 dot com
What a cool site. I'll have to browse some more. The Home Water-saving Kit caught my eye. That is something we as a family need to pay more attention to. I, too, like you am still very attached to my old Camelbaks (particularly b/c I love that bite valve). I need a new one!!
ReplyDeletethanks
I love the red BPA-free water bottle. I enjoyed looking at the site and I love the gift packs, but the water bottle is my favorite. I just started a workout program and I have increased my water intake tons. However, I am using a colored bottle that I'm sure is not up to par and that worries me a little. I guess I'm like you.. attached to my old one! I like the form, function and style of this new bottle! Thanks for the fun site.
ReplyDeletemunchiema at yahoo dot com.
My favorite product is the Mini-twist 60-watt CFL "Standard" Bulb :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite item from Lets Go Green! Is the water conservation kit. I would like a shower timer. That is my biggest green weakness.
I am exactly like you - I got the kiddos their own BPA-free sippys, but still have my who-knows-what's-in-it cups!! On Lets Go Green, I also like the Natural all purpose cleaner. I like to simplify and be able to use a cleaner on the counter or floor or wherever! Thanks for the fun giveaway! amguely(at)gmail.com

I'm having trouble letting go of my BPA Nalgene, too. I got a Klean Kanteen, but I just like the Nalgene better. So I suppose my favorite item from Let's Go Green would be another new water bottle in the hopes I like it better. I would choose the Camelbak, how convenient!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Red BPA-free .75L (25 oz.) Better Bottle. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe Biodegradable picnic supplies are cool.
ReplyDeleteWe have the camel back hydration pack which we love for the car and amusement parks. We take and put water in 1/4 part of bag and freeze then just before leaving fill rest up with water. Ice slowly melts and keeps drink cold, bag hangs on back of car seat and provides drink with no spilling in car and has a safety straw so child won't get hurt. So I know their water bottles have to be good. Besides the water bottles in the 25 oz size for my kids sports and band. I like the Large Canvas Grocery Tote. I like the berry colored bottle, I know that my kids would also love these bottles in the green and ocean colors.
