Shopping for a Hard Drive

I am predictably rotten at keeping my data safe. This might be because the last external hard drive I had fried my iMac! Seriously. I was lucky enough to get all my info back but it scared me into thinking that investing in a more dependable memory solution would be smart. As luck would have it, I was asked to shop for a Seagate GoFlex Hard Drive. Here's my story:

Printer Errors

A Wrestling Addicted Mommy is giving away an Epson Artisan 800 printer. Our old HP runs out of ink every five seconds and has never been my friend. I preferred my old Epson but my husband didn't like it. I want to go back! I'd love to play with all of the features of the Epson Artisan 800 printer, especially the crafty ones like the personalized note paper and coloring pages. Take a picture of your problem printer and blog about it to enter. Or don't, since I really want to win!

TAG, You're It!

Roo is learning to read and constantly surprises me with how much she already knows. She can spell her full name and Mom and Dad (although she prefers to write B-O-B!) and Jasper. At bedtime, she "reads" books from memory, but it seems as though she is actually starting to pick out words.

She is at the perfect stage for the Leapfrog Tag Reader, an electronic stylus that "reads" stories aloud. I was really impressed with how quickly she took to it and learned how to use it. The Tag Reader can "read" by the word, page or full story. It's kind of an updated version of the filmstrips I remember as a kid: "when you hear the bell, turn the page…" only you control the speed and can go back and forth as you please. Being a typical four year old, Roo enjoys repeating the same words and pages over and over and over again… at least repetition builds recognition, right?!

The Leapfrog Tag Reader comes with one introductory book called Ozzie and Mack. We also received the Tag Classic Storybook Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which we already were familiar with, but Roo swears this version is better. Apparently the voice actor has a more compelling way of rhyming than I do! There are currently 20 other Tag Classic Storybook titles available, including many characters your child knows and loves including The Cat in the Hat, Ariel, Diego, Dora and Kung Fu Panda. The next titles we'll be getting are two of Roo's favorites: Fancy Nancy and Olivia. I, personally, love Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends so we might have to get that one, too. And, of course, the pretty pink Tag storage case to stuff them all into…

An unusual proprietary feature of the Tag Reader is the LeapFrog Learning Path, a free online tool that lets you see your child's learning progress. It's kind of a virtual assessment, based on your child's use of the Tag Reader. You can monitor your child's style of reading and discover new ways to encourage their growth and learning. And as they grow, their LeapFrog Learning Path will suggest different titles and products to transition into. Smart. Like your kids!

Worst week, ever.

First the digital camera was stolen. Then Godzilla was killed. Then my hard drive conked out all of a sudden. I am typing this at my local library while Jasper is sleeping in his infant carrier. I have no idea when the computer will be fixed and whether or not my files will be recoverable. Grrr. (I am now REALLY hoping I win that DevDad iMac...)

Anyway, contests will remain open until I get decent access to a computer. Which may not be until my birthday (11/03) if I can justify buying a new one. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Stay At Home Dad iMac Give-Away

Now, here's a contest that I'd really love to win. Daddy Blogger Mike of Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style is giving one lucky reader their own little piece of tech. Last month, he gave away a digital camera and this month, he is offering a brand new, unopened 20″ Apple iMac. Look at how pretty it is:

This sweet white hunk of plastic and metal has a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 GB of memory, a 250 GB hard drive, an 8x SuperDrive, and a 20″ glossy display and retails for $1199. It would render my current G4 iMac not exactly obsolete but, uh, Bob's. I could force him to learn to upload his art photos and email them to galleries. Heck, I could even set the iMacs up side by side (maybe the would breed!) so Roo could play online while I update my blog… Oh, the possibilities are endless!

Stay At Home Dad iMac

How can Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style be so generous? For this contest, he has teamed up with SitterCity, an online database that allows babysitters and petsitters to connect with the people who need them. Go check it out:

If you have a blog, Stay At Home Dad, Geek Style would love for you to participate in this contest, too. All you have to do is write a 250-word post about the Stay At Home Dad iMac Give-Away and include his special link to SitterCity. There's even extra credit to earn more entries:

Oh, I hope I win! I'm crossing my fingers and my toes.
