Toddler psychology
"Hordak's mommy doesn't give him enough hugs. That's why he's so cranky all the time. If he had more love, he would be less mean."

Dress-up Time!
The costumes from Aeromax's Get Real Gear line are pretty cool. No princessy fluff or glitter here, just sturdy, hard-working dress up gear– pilots, fireman, doctors, GIs, etc. Perfect for kids who already know what they want to be when they grow up! Or whose relatives want to gently, uh, prod them in a certain direction. I am surprised my mom didn't go out and buy the Jr. Armed Forces Pilot costume as soon as she found out I was expecting a boy…

My personal favorites are the Jr. Ninja (of course) and the Jr. S.W.A.T., which comes complete with helmet and police baton.

Aeromax also has Get Real Gear in adult sizes for several of the costume styles, so you can coordinate a family crew. No adult sizes in the furry Kid's Safari costume division, thankfully. I think I saw a CSI episode about that once. I'm still sad there's no adult Ninja outfit, though! What a stealthy family that would be…
Roo, of course, still wants to be She-Ra, but we're about 20 years late for that costume opportunity. Anybody have a spare She-Ra costume in size 2-4 laying around ?

Mommy Loves Ebay
Aah, sweet Ebay. Where else can you locate a 20+ year old She-Ra crystal palace and a gazillion action figures (including the coveted Spirit!) and make a three year old's face light up like it's her birthday every single day?

We made a couple of garage sale and thrift store excursions trying to find She-Ra stuff but came up woefully empty. Luckily, there's always the internet. Woo-hoo!

She-Ra boots.
Roo is She-Ra, mommy is Spirit and daddy is Battle Cat. It's freaking me out how into this she is... at least she's finally wearing the silver boots I got on Ebay when she was like three months old...

*Roo's favorite kitty skirt is sadly not available anymore. It's by Ashor's Room. If anyone knows where I can get one in a 4, 6, 8, etc. please email me!*

Princess of Power

So Roo's been on a massive Cinderella kick lately, which I try not to mind but then her daddy bought a Disney Princess book while they were at Lowe's and it put me off the whole thing... they distill the movies down into "she's so pretty, she dreams of a handsome prince, they live happily ever after." Ick. Anyway, while I was checking out more appropriate reading material for smart, independent three year old girls at the library, I saw the recently released Best of She-Ra DVD and thought, "heck, she's a princess, but at least she has a sword!"
So now Roo wakes up every morning saying "I have the power!" and "For the honor of Greyskull!" but it's a little more palatable than "hi evil stepmother, don't I look pretty?"
Hopefully we haven't turned her into this:
